Step-by-Step Guide: Installing & Setting Up VS2022 for MU Servers ​

Follow this quick guide to install Visual Studio 2022 properly and compile your MU Server source without issues.​

Step 1: Download Visual Studio 2022​

Official link (Community version):

To view the content, you need to Sign In or Register.

Step 2: Start the Installer​

• Open the installer and choose “Desktop development with C++” workload
• (Optional) Also select:
  • “.NET desktop development” (for tools or GUI-based launchers)
  • “Game development with C++” (for graphics/3D systems)
• Continue with installation and wait for completion

Step 3: Open Your MU Project​

• Go to `File > Open > Project or Solution`
• Select your `.sln` or `.vcxproj` file
• Make sure to right-click your project > Properties > Platform Toolsetand choose:
  • v143 (latest)
  • v100 or v141 (for legacy)
• Then, Build > Build Solution (F7)

Extra Tips​

• If compiling legacy sources (97d~S12), convert `.vcproj` to `.vcxproj` if prompted
• Always run Visual Studio as Administrator for full access
• Use “Release” mode for production builds
• Disable precompiled headers if you get “stdafx.h” errors
